Before your visit:
You will be sitting in a recliner during your treatment. The acupuncture points that I use are below the elbows and knees and on the head and ears, so you should plan to wear comfortable clothing that can be pushed above your elbows and knees.
It is a good idea to eat something several hours before your appointment.
If possible, please print the new patient paperwork in advance, fill it out, and bring it with you to your appointment. You can also arrive 10 minutes early and fill out the paperwork at the clinic. Please bring a complete list of any medications you are taking, including dosages.
The clinic has quiet music playing, but you are welcome to bring headphones and listen to other music or a meditation or audiobook if you prefer. Please remember to silence your cell phone.

During your visit:
Your acupuncturist will meet you in the waiting room. You’ll then proceed to a treatment room, select a chair, take off your shoes and socks, roll up your sleeves and pants, and relax. Your acupuncturist will review your paperwork and briefly discuss your primary concerns and an initial course of treatment with you. The number of treatments recommended will vary depending on your primary concerns, whether they are chronic or acute, and your general health.
Your acupuncture treatment may include points on your arms and hands, legs and feet, and head and ears.
Most people relax with their needles in for 30 to 45 minutes, but you are welcome to stay up to an hour if there is space available. Please let us know at the beginning of your treatment if you need to leave at a certain time.

After your visit:
Sometimes people have dramatic and lasting improvements in chronic conditions with very few treatments. This is the exception, rather than the rule. In most cases, acupuncture is a process. Many people notice only small changes in their health or even no change at all after a single visit. A change may occur right away or may not occur until a day or two after the treatment, and any change may last for only a few hours or a day or two at first. That is normal. Positive changes in your condition or overall health will last longer as you continue with your treatment plan.
Sometimes it can take longer than expected to see results. If your primary concern is not changing, look for improvements in other areas. You may feel more like yourself, sleep better, have more energy, or notice a decrease in stress or a secondary symptom. These are all positive signs that the acupuncture treatments are helping your body return to a state of balance and health.
